The Elfstedentocht is a nearly 200 kilometer long skating trip on natural ice organized by the Royal Association De Friesche Elf Steden. Because of the distance and because of its heroic character, the Elfstedentocht is also called "De Tocht der Tochten".
The Elfstedentocht was ridden for the first time (officially) in 1909 and is held at most once a winter. The tour can only be organized if the condition of the ice permits. In total the trip was held fifteen times. The most recent trip took place in 1997.
In the series Nederland retro we have several Dutch pictures on beautiful Delft blue plates. A very nice gift with nostalgic images that are still very contemporary. 25cm
